As international cricket is running more than 140 years, we have seen many frustrating interruptions. While the rain stoppage and bad light are very common reasons for the match interruption, field invasion is another common reason for delaying the game.

However, here we are showing the top five bizarre and rare incidents that have interrupted the international cricket matches.

Eclipse forced earlier rest day

It was the only Test between India and England at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai, then Bombay) that was played from 15 February to 19 February 1980. That Test was played in the celebration of the golden jubilee of the formation of the Indian cricket board. Though generally the rest day had been scheduled on day three at that time, the special Test match had seen the rest day one day earlier – day two (16 February 1980) due to the total eclipse of the sun. The Indian board had an agreement with England about this as they didn’t want to be responsible for any damage to crowds’ eyes.
