Underground drains caused interruption

This incident happened on 21 July 1988, the day one of the fourth Test match of the five-match Test series between the hosts England and the visitors West Indies at Headingley (Leeds). Due to heavy overnight rain, the day already faced a little-delayed start but there was the interruption during the only second over of the game after the Rugby Club End’s bowling run-up had been found to be flooded. Observing the situation, the on-field umpire Dickie Bird halted the game until it was repaired. It was known that the incident happened due to the underground drain had a burst and burst. It took almost three hours before restarting the game.
