For over a decade, the unforeseeable IPL auction has thrown surprises at us. From players being acquired for life-changing bids to others remaining unsold in the auction, we have seen a lot of surprising decisions being taken at the auction table.

Talking about the overseas players, some of them have managed to remain a constant part of the tournament, while there have been many who will be remembered as a ‘one-season-wonder’ player. At the auction table this year, a lot of overseas players, who are yet to make their IPL debut, were bought on their current form. Whether they will survive for the times to come or vanish after a season or two, only time will tell.

Here is the list of the Top Five Overseas Players who will make their IPL Debut this year:

1. Moeen Ali (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – The 30-year all-rounder from England is a regular member of the English playing eleven across formats. His versatility ranges from opening the batting to playing the big shots in the death overs and to bowling offbreaks with the new ball to drying up the runs in the middle overs. Ali has it in him to provide the perfect balance to the Royal Challengers’ line-up. In the 109 T20s that he has played, he has scored 2,139 runs at an average of 22.51 and a strike rate of 128.85 and dismissed 69 batsmen at 26.79 apiece. His economy rate of 7.38 and bowling strike rate of 21.7 are apt for this format.
