Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma endured a nightmare outing against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The left-hander didn’t even get a proper chance to settle in, as a mix-up with Travis Head saw him back in the pavilion after facing just one ball.

Opening the innings for SRH, Abhishek was eager to make an impact but fell victim to a poor call from his partner. On the last ball of the first over, Mitchell Starc delivered a wide yorker outside off, which Head tried to guide through the off-side. However, the ball took an inside edge onto his back pad, leading to an unfortunate miscommunication.

Watching the ball rather than his partner, Head instinctively called for a quick single. Abhishek, sensing danger, immediately raised his hand to signal “no,” but Head had already committed. By the time Abhishek reacted, it was too late. A sharp under-arm throw from Vipraj Nigam hit the stumps directly at the keeper’s end, leaving the SRH opener stranded and forced to walk back without scoring.

At the toss, SRH skipper Pat Cummins emphasized the importance of posting a strong total in the afternoon heat. “Afternoon games tend to be hot at the start. Looking to put up a big total. We batted the opposition out of the game last year, hope to do that today,” Cummins said. SRH made a single change, bringing in Zeeshan for Simarjeet.

Meanwhile, DC’s Axar Patel admitted he would have preferred to bat first but remained confident in his team’s plans. “You have to be brave against SRH, especially in the powerplay. You can bowl like it’s the death overs, be aggressive,” he said, confirming that Rahul replaced Rizvi in the playing XI.
