The four-time title IPL champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) have struck gold on the first ball of the final as the in-the form of the New Zealand fast bowler, Trent Boult. Ahead of the IPL 2020, Mumbai had traded the Kiwi pacer from Delhi Capitals (DC) and the move has reaped rich rewards for the franchise. Boult has been lethal with the ball throughout the tournament and has emerged as one of the best bowlers in the powerplay in the history of the league.

The defending champions were up against the Capitals in the final of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Trent Boult again weaved his magic as he picked up a couple of wickets in the mandatory powerplay. However, it was the wicket of the DC opener, Marcus Stoinis that stood out.

The toss went in the favor of DC skipper Shreyas Iyer and he elected to bat first. Mumbai got off to a phenomenal start with the ball as Boult again did what is known for. Trent started the evening by bowling a peach of a delivery which took the most priced wicket of in-form opening batsman Marcus Stoinis.

It was a back of length delivery that was going away but suddenly moved back in after pitching. It stunned Stoinis as he was cramped for room and the ball took the outside edge to land in the hands of wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. As Stoinis bagged a golden duck, Mumbai’s happiness increased exponentially as they very well understood the importance of the wicket. Stoinis has been a prolific run-getter for DC as he had amassed 252 runs in 16 games.

Trent Boult also chipped in with another crucial dismissal in the third over as he managed to flounder the opposition top-order by sending back Ajinkya Rahane to the pavilion. It was another phenomenal delivery from the Kiwi fast bowler as the ball swung inside and Rahane could do nothing. With these two crucial wickets, Trent has taken 16 wickets in the powerplay now.
