New Zealand have registered a convincing Test-series victory over England recently but that would not count much when they will take on India in the WTC final, shares the pace sparehead, Trent Boult, on Tuesday. However, The New Zealand team have already arrived in Southampton on Tuesday for the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final, which is all set to start on June 18 at the Ageas Bowl.

While the first Test against England ended in a draw, New Zealand under Tom Latham won the series by 1-0, claiming a win by eight wickets in the second Test as well. Howveer, Kane Williamson, who didn’t feature in the second Test due to elbow injury, has returned to the squad and expected to be fully fit before the much-awaited summit clash.

“I don’t think it counts for much. Good preparation, and good for everyone to have a hitout and get some time under their belt,” said Trent Boult who himself made a return to competitive cricket with match figures of 6-119 in the second Test.

Notably, he had missed the first Test as he returned home from the now-suspended IPL 2021 and joined the squad late in England.

“Just really looking forward to this week, can’t wait, and hopefully we can continue on our good form,” Trent Bolt further added.

The pace bowler, who has played 73 Test matches for New Zealand so far, said that he expects a bit of banter with the Indian players also since they play together in the Indian Premier League. Boult plays for Mumbai Indians in IPL.

“It’s a little bit different, (we’ve seen) a few IPL players and guys we’re familiar with from certain teams. I haven’t seen any of my fellow Mumbai Indians yet and I’m sure there will be a bit of banter and a few smiles shared. Obviously with social distancing everyone is keeping their distance and it’s one of those unique situations,” Trent Boult concluded.
