In the clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit Sharma’s susceptibility to left-arm pacers was once again highlighted as Trent Boult dismissed him for a golden duck. RR captain Sanju Samson’s exceptional catch behind the stumps added to the dismissal’s drama. After winning the toss, Samson’s decision to bowl first was quickly vindicated by Boult’s swift performance.

Boult’s initial three dot deliveries set the stage for Rohit’s dismissal. A tentative push by the Mumbai Indians skipper on a short-of-a-length delivery resulted in an edge behind the stumps. Samson’s remarkable one-handed catch to his right secured the wicket, leaving Rohit to depart without troubling the scorers.

In IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma’s performance has been inconsistent. While he kicked off the season with a promising 43-run knock against the Gujarat Titans, his subsequent innings saw him score only 26 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad before succumbing to Boult for a duck in the ongoing match against the Rajasthan Royals.

This IPL season marks Rohit’s first appearance as a non-captain since 2013, having previously led the Mumbai Indians from 2013 to 2023 before handing over the reins to Hardik Pandya. Despite his recent IPL performances not living up to his reputation, Rohit remains determined to make his mark in the tournament.
