Trevor Bayliss replaces former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble, who helmed the side from 2019-22. Bayliss, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to titles in 2012 and 2014, will be expected to change PBKS’ fortunes.

Commenting on his new role as PBKS head coach, Trevor Bayliss, said, “I’m honored to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware.”

Trevor Bayliss replaces Anil Kumble after the former India cricketer’s contract wasn’t renewed by Punjab Kings. Under Kumble, PBKS failed to progress to three consecutive IPL play-offs. They only managed to reach the final of IPL in 2014 when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders, who were under Bayliss.

At the time of his joining, Kumble was the fifth coach Kings had appointed in five seasons after Sanjay Bangar (2014-16), Virender Sehwag (2017), Brad Hodge (2018), and Mike Hesson (2019).

Punjab Kings finished sixth in the last four seasons of the IPL. In this year’s tournament, Mayank Agarwal had taken over the captaincy from KL Rahul but he could not meet the expectations with the bat. Mayank and Arshdeep Singh were the only two players Punjab had retained ahead of the IPL 2022.
