Dinesh Bana’s name will be remembered for a long time. The wicketkeeper-batsman, however, hit the winning runs in the final of the ICC Under 19 World Cup for India against England and finished the match with a six. While it reminded fans of MS Dhoni, who did a similar in the 2011 World Cup, it has now been revealed that Dinesh Bana was not the first-choice keeper for the Indian side as well.

In fact, during a Challenger Trophy match between India B and India F, Dinesh Bana’s friend and teammate Nishant Sindhu told him that the selectors have come to see him play. And to that, Bana replied to Sindhu to just count the sixes that he hits in the game as well. And, Dinesh Bana smashed a blitzy 170 off just 98 deliveries, and his innings consisted of 14 sixes and 10 fours as well.

“Dinesh Bana was never the first-choice keeper. During the India B vs India F in the Challengers Trophy, his friend Nishant Sindhu told him ‘aaj selectors aane waale hai. Bana replied, ‘Tu bas six count karna aaj mere.’ Bana smashed a 98-ball 170, including 10 fours and 14 sixes,” read a tweet from Pratyush Rai from The Indian Express.

However, as far as the match is concerned in the mega event, the Indian team gave a clinical performance with both bat and ball to beat the England U19 side with 4 wickets and 14 balls in hand as well. The England team batted first and was bundled out for just 189. Raj Bawa was the pick of the bowlers for the India U19 team and picked up a five-wicket haul.

For India, the duo of Nishant Sindhu and Shaik Rasheed scored half-centuries to help the Yash Dhull led team lift the ICC U19 World Cup for a record 5th time as well. Also, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah has also announced that every player of the team will be awarded a cash prize of INR 40 Lakhs, while the support staff members will get INR 25 Lakhs for their effort in the ICC Under-19 World Cup as well.
