Australia started the day four of the Perth Test on their overnight score 132/4 with the lead of 175 runs while Shami had two wickets in his account. Australia got a perfect start on the day as the overnight unbeaten batsmen Usman Khawaja and the skipper Tim Paine added 60 more runs for that fifth wicket partnership. In overall, they had a 72-run partnership for that fifth wicket before Shami led the Indian bowling attack for the hosts’ batting collapse.

While Australia was batting at one stage on 192/4, soon they went down to 207/9 and then they were bowled out on 243 runs.

At first, Shami dismissed the skipper Paine for 37 runs and in the very next ball, the Indian pacer dismissed Aaron Finch (25 runs), the Aussie opener who was retired-hurt on the day three after he was struck on his finger.

Settled Usman Khawaja (72 runs), who led the hosts for a good second innings total, was the next victim of Shami. That wicket completed his fourth fifer in his Test career. Another Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah took the next wicket after dismissing Pat Cummins for just 1 run.

Shami added another wicket in his account after dismissing Nathan Lyon for just 5 runs. Bumrah finished that innings after breaking the 36-run partnership for the last wicket between Mitchell Starc (14) and Josh Hazlewood (17*). Australia was bowled out for 243 runs in that innings while they set a challenging fourth innings target of 287 runs for the visitors.

Mohammed Shami ended that innings with the bowling figure of 24-8-56-6. His previous best bowling figure was 12.3-2-28-5 against South Africa at Johannesburg in this January. In the first innings of this Perth Test, Shami had a bowling figure of 24-3-80-0.
