Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the no.4 batsman Ambati Rayudu controlled the Indian innings in the ongoing second ODI of the five-match ODI series at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium (Visakhapatnam) on Wednesday. While Kohli becomes the fastest batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs, Rayudu played a brilliant 73-run knock.
In the ongoing day/night ODI, the Indian skipper Kohli decided to bat first after winning the toss. The in-form Indian opener Rohit Sharma lost his wicket on just 4 runs, while another in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan fell for 29 runs.
While both the openers were dismissed under the first powerplay, Kohli and Rayudu took the charge to control and shape the innings. They had an important third-wicket partnership of 139 runs that led the side towards the good total.
At first, Kohli completed his half-century in 56 balls and then Rayudu hit his ninth ODI half-century 61 balls. Both carried their innings for further but Rayudu was finally restricted on 73 runs off 80 balls (8 fours) after the off-spinner Ashley Nurse bowled him.
However, Kohli continued his innings and completed his 37th ODI century in 106 balls with 10 fours. Prior to that century, Kohli completed his 10,000 ODI runs when he reached to the 81-run. Playing his only 205th ODI innings, Kohli achieved this feat and becomes the fastest batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs. The legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was the previous record holder who had completed his 10,000 ODI runs in 259 ODI innings.

Software update all the time. Virat Kohli has redefined what consistency means. Got his 9000th odi run just 11 innings ago and got his 10000 th today, to go with his 37th century. Enjoy the phenomena #KingKohli pic.twitter.com/OPhvIsBRDJ

It’s hot & humid. So easy for someone with Virat’s abilities to say ‘forget the running, let me deal in boundaries today’ No, he still wants to get quick runs, risk free. So it’s once again putting the body on the line, running hard between the wickets.👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏#INDvWIN

(On Ambati Rayudu)
Ambati Rayudu is all a no 4 should be. Can score at a run a ball against both spin and seam, by picking singles, hitting the ball in the gaps. Also has the big game when needed as we saw in the last IPL.#INDvWIN
