Jonny Bairstow has come in the news today – not only for his stunning batting but also for his stunning show behind the stumps too. In the 20th over, Bairstow accidentally hit one bail with his knee before collecting the ball, but then took off another bail to run Mohammed Shami out, which left everyone in surprise.
However, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) had the upper hand in the game by then. But they didn’t have a great start as the second delivery of the 20th over witnessed Jonny Bairstow let off a boundary off the bowler Siddarth Kaul. And on the fourth ball of the over, he again made a mistake of a flat throw from the all-rounder Vijay Shankar after Shami and Arshdeep tried to steal a second-run but they were late on it as well.

However, Bairstow accidentally dislodged one bail with his knee. Meanwhile, according to the laws of the game, if only one bail comes off, it’s not necessary to uproot the stumps and just knocking the other bail will do the job as well. And Jonny Bairstow did exactly that as he smashed the stumps with his gloves. With this, PBKS were all out for 120 before they could complete their allotted 20 overs.

However, it was a convincing win for SRH. After the win, David Warner said: “Very pleasing. Our bowlers did a fantastic job and reduced them to a low score. They executed well and we won batting second. (On his dismissal) It was probably a mixture of both (mistimed and fatigue), I should have tried to hit it in the grandstand but that happens in cricket. The game plan of having him (Williamson) there is obviously to anchor the game and he rotates strike so well. Against spin, he gets forward and gets back, he just knows his role and game plan. It’s handy having him in the middle. I am really pleased we got across the line. He (Abhishek Sharma) is a young guy coming through and he’s exciting. We asked him to work on his bowling a lot more during the series this year and he did that. We have got one more game here. No surprises with this wicket, we got to bowl well. It’s all about starting fresh again and take the wicket out of it.”
