During the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC), R Ashwin was seen giving a warning to the RCB opener, Aaron Finch for getting too far out of his crease as the Indian spinner was bowling in the second innings.
Ashwin had received a lot of flak when he ran Jos Buttler out in a similar fashion in the last season of the IPL. Moreover, after sealing his move to Delhi Capitals, coach Ricky Ponting had said that he would speak to Ashwin about running the non-striker out, termed as Mankading after former India all-rounder Vinoo Mankad.

The duo had conversations over the type of dismissal and it seems to have had an impact on Ashwin’s approach to it after he decided to warn Finch instead of running him ou. If anyone was worried that the decision would come back to haunt the Delhi Capitals (DC), Finch was dismissed in the next over as Axar Patel had him caught behind.
Here is the video of the incident:
Earlier in the game, RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and welcomed Shreyas Iyer and his men to bat first at the Dubai International Stadium. RCB made a couple of changes to their playing XI from the previous game as they replaced Adam Zampa and Gurkeerat Singh Mann, replacing them with Moeen Ali and Mohammed Siraj respectively.

On the other hand, DC replaced injured spinner Amit Mishra, who has been ruled out of the tournament, with Axar Patel. With help of a fiery half-century from Marcus Stoinis, DC reached a huge total of 196/4 in their quota of 20 overs.
But the incident got Twitter going and this is how fans reacted on the social media platform after Ashwin’s warning:

Finch is taking the piss here, you can't be more than a crease length out of the bloody crease man! https://t.co/PTwQlpB9wP

Well Finch was out. Ashwin is kind. I am sure Ponting is like “You should have got him out” 🤣 #RCBvDC

PS: My take on the Buttler issue is different. I am all for Mankad, but Ashwin made an unfair pause then imo (as I stated then too)

Only thing Ashwin did wrong there was not running him out.
