Indian skipper Virat Kohli played a brilliant century knock that guided the visiting side to win the crucial second ODI of the three-match ODI series at Adelaide Oval (Adelaide) on Tuesday (15 January).
Chasing down the 299 runs target that set by the host side Australia after deciding to bat first, India was in the struggling period as the most of the top-order batsmen failed to capitalise their starts to the big score.
Though there were some good partnerships, the openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were dismissed on 43 and 32 runs respectively while the no.4 batsman Ambati Rayudu lost his wicket on 24 runs.
The skipper Kohli played the necessary long knock to chase the challenging target. After completing his half-century in 66 balls, Kohli carried his innings in strong way to complete his brilliant ODI century in 108 balls.
The Indian skipper played a very crucial knock to set the tone for the visiting team. After scoring 104 runs off 112 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes, Kohli was caught at deep midwicket by Glenn Maxwell while Jhye Richardson picked up that wicket.
However, in the end, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni safely guided the team with Dinesh Karthik. Dhoni played the unbeaten knock of 55 off 54 balls while Karthik remained not out on 25 off 14 balls as India chased the target (299/4) in 49.2 overs after losing four wickets.
For the brilliant match-winning century knock, the Indian skipper Kohli won the Player of the Match award.

Ek athlete ko pata hota hai usko kab retire hona hai. Log bolte rahenge aur woh run maarta rahega. That sixer is a proof that he is still “THE MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI” 💕
P.S: DK is such an important pillar for the team. And Kohli, you beauty! ♥️#WhatATeam #Dhoni #KingKohli

Most international 100s after fielding first:
39 – Kohli*

It is extremely hard to construct a case that Virat Kohli isn't the greatest ODI batsman of all time. Today's century moves him within 10 of Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 49 – Kohli has 246 matches left to score the 11 he needs to pass Tendulkar's tally in fewer matches. #AUSvIND
