Umar Akmal has been at the international stage for over a decade now. Pakistan Cricket team believed that Umar Akmal would be the solution to their middle-order problems during his time of debut. Akmal was rated very highly as the batsman had the ability to score runs at a quick rate, Unfortunately, the star player never reached the level and did not get the support he needed to get there.

Umar Akmal has been extremely inconsistent blowing hot and cold in recent times leading to his fall down as a cricket professional,  THe star batsman last made an international appearance for Pakistan during a T20 series last year. Akmal failed to deliver and continued his inconsistent form throughout the series.

Umar Akmal has donned the Pakistan jersey for 11 years, The 29-year-old batsman is now being charged for breaching the anti-corruption code of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Pakistan batsman is suspected to have breached the PCB anti-corruption code twice in the recent past. PCB has charged Akmal for breaching article 2.4.4 of the PCB anti-corruption code.

Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code says: “Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code”.

According to Article 6.2, the range of permitted period of ineligibility for those accused and found wrong for a violation of Article 2.4.4 is a minimum of six months and a maximum of a lifetime.

The batsman has been issued a notice by the board earlier this week. He has been told to respond to the charges in writing within the end of this month. The last day of submission of the response has been set to March 31. The batsman was provisionally suspended in February.

Umar Akmal and his brother Kamran both have had the privilege of playing cricket for their nation. While Umar Akmal played with less regularity in the Green jersey, his brother and former wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal have been a mainstay for the Pakistan National team.  Umar has played 121 ODIs, 16 Tests and 84 T20Is while Kamran has featured in 57 ODIs, 53 Tests and 57 T20Is.
