Umar Akmal has been at the international stage for over a decade now. The middle-order batsman has featured in 121 ODIs, 16 Tests and 84 T20Is for the Pakistan national team. On Tuesday, a Geo report suggests that Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has appealed against his three-year ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Disciplinary Panel announced a ban of three years on Umar Akmal. The PCB Anti-Corruption officials had charged Umar within two separate cases of not reporting an approach made to him to spot fix matches in the 5th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The report on www.geo.tv says as per their source, the board will within the next 15 days appoint an independent arbitrator to hear the appeal. The website also reported that Akmal has hired Adviser to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs, Babar Awan’s law firm to help him in his case.
Umar, who was provisionally suspended on February 20 was barred from playing in the PSL for his franchise Quetta Gladiators. Akmal is charged breaching Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code on March 17. The PCB had then referred the matter to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan.

Justice Chauhan imposed a ban on the three-year ban of Umar Akmal for violating two charges of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code. His 3 year-long ban is effective on February 20, 2020. Umar Akmal will now become eligible to return to cricket activities on February 19, 2023.
