The fiery Indian fast bowler, Umesh Yadav did not get his Australian summer off to the start he would have been hoping for as he tripped over trying to bowl his first ball to the Cricket Australia XI opener on Day 2 of the practice game at Sydney Cricket Ground. Umesh ran in well but at the time of delivery, his back leg slipped and then he fell and then tumbled over. He was lucky to have escaped an injury. Here is the video of the same:

The 4-day practice game between India and CA XI couldn’t start on Day 1 after rain played spoilsport. Both captains had to wait for the second day to have the toss take place before the now-reduced 3-day affair could begin in Sydney. The match saw visiting batsmen, barring KL Rahul, amongst the runs, with as many as 5 fifties being witnessed by the visitors.

Prithvi Shaw emerged as the top run-scorer for India with 66 runs off 69 balls. Cheteshwar Pujara (54), Kohli (64), Ajinkya Rahane (56*), Hanuma Vihari (53), all got half-centuries while Rohit Sharma (40) and Rahul (3) were the only recognized batsmen to have failed to reach the milestone.

The lower-order – constituting Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav – couldn’t bag many runs as India lost last 5 wickets for a matter of just 11 runs, hence being bundled out for 358. Opening the batting for CA XI, D’Arcy Short and Max Bryant remained unbeaten as stumps were called on Day 2. The hosts’ aggregated 24 runs in 4 overs without losing any wicket.

CA XI didn’t lose any wicket in the limited time they got on Day 2, but the Indian bowlers are expected to pose greater threat to CA XI batsmen on the third day. Murali Vijay, who remained the only recognized batsman to have not played on the second day, can be expected to come out to open alongside Shaw in the second innings.
