Miscommunication on a cricket ground is not only limited to two batsmen during running between the wickets or two fielders while attempting for a high catch. A recent incident in the 47th match of the Indian Premier League proved that miscommunication can take place between a bowler and an umpire as well.
It all happened in the fifth over of the Gujarat Lions’ innings in their match against Kings XI Punjab. Sandeep Sharma bowled the fourth delivery over the wicket to Dwayne Smith. A leg bye meant that Ishan Kishan was at the batting end now. Meanwhile, Sharma had signalled the umpire that he is going to bowl around the wicket to the left-hander, Kishan.
This is where the umpire, A. Nand Kishore, failed to pay attention to the bowlers’ signal. As a result of which, Smith did not shift to the other side of the pitch. Nand Kishore then signalled a no-ball, as according to him Sharma changed his side without informing him.
Things really got hot in the middle as a furious Sharma was seen arguing with the umpire. Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Axar Patel and captain Glenn Maxwell later joined the right-arm pacer in the argument. Maxwell was later spotted in a heated discussion with both the umpires.
