India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s biopic – ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams released on Friday. It was one of the most awaited movies of 2017. The fans of the god of cricket were eagerly waiting to know the insights of Sachin’s personal life and his mindset when he faced crunched situations.
However, there are some untold stories about the master blaster which were pretty close to him and they are unfolded in the movie. Here are 5 such inside stories of Sachin’s life which were untold and got unfolded in the movie.
1. Sir Vivian Richard’s Phone call
After India’s dismal performance in ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, Tendulkar was going through depression and locked him up in his house. he even didn’t speak to anybody for seven days. The media persons even started rumors about his retirement plans and this made Sachin even more discouraged.
But, it was one call from his batting idol Sir Vivian Richards that motivated the master blaster. Sir Viv spoke to him, over the phone, and advised him to continue playing.
2. Good luck messages
The Little Master one of the most superstitious cricketers in the world. He never liked getting best wishes from anybody before a match. Even if his coach said, “Sachin, good luck”, Sachin would say “NO! don’t tell me that”.
3. Master Blaster’s love story
Sachin’s life companion, his wife Anjali was so fond of him that when she first saw him in the 1990s, she went back home and prepared a scrapbook of Sachin’s pictures, which she cut out from newspapers.
4. ICC World Cup 2011 semi-final’s food incident
On the day of the semi-final of the World Cup 2011, Indian cricketers weren’t given breakfast on time because the dinning area was sealed for Pakistan cricket team due to security reasons. The players went on to the field with empty stomachs. And, to add more to it, their lunch truck was late too that day.
When players got angry about not getting the food on time, Sachin advised his team to stop thinking about food and concentrate on the game on hand instead.
5. Career threatening injury of Sachin
In 2001, Sachin sustained a toe injury and doctors urged him to stay away from the game and not to put too much weight on his injured toe. But little master didn’t give up and for the next 12 years of his career, he batted with the extra amount of padding on toe.
