Australia batter Usman Khawaja made a brilliant comeback to the Test scoring as he scored his 9th century in Test cricket against England in Sydney. His wife Rachel McCellan and daughter Aisha were present at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday (January 6). Khawaja’s century on Day 2 of the 4th Ashes Test against England, powered the hosts to 321/6.
England seamer Stuart Broad picked up a couple of wickets with the new ball but Usman Khawaja managed to churn out a fighting hundred which helped Australia to reach a dominant position. Brought into the Australia side for Travis Head after the middle-order batsman tested positive for COVID-19, Khawaja was clearly relishing his latest comeback at the ground where he made his Test debut.

Usman Khawaja got a lifeline in the morning session when he got an edge on delivery from England spinner Jack Leach but the ball evaded wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and Joe Root failed to catch the ball first slip. After completing his century, Khawaja imitated the celebration of legendary basketball player LeBron James’ ‘The Silencer’ celebration. Khawaja draws a lot of inspiration from the basketball legend.

Usman Khawaja made the most of his reprieve, picking the moments to unleash his stylish strokes and bringing up his ninth test century with three runs through square leg just before the break. Khawaja and Steve Smith had batted through the opening session at the Sydney Cricket Ground to dash England`s hopes of taking early wickets. Broad finally broke the 115-run fourth-wicket partnership when Smith edged the ball behind on 67 and then quickly despatched all-rounder Cameron Green for five, caught in the cordon.

A few years back, Usman Khawaja has revealed how he has worked tremendously on his fitness taking inspiration from none other than NBA legend LeBron James.
During a chat with RSN radio, Usman Khawaja had said, “It wasn’t a thing where I was like ‘CA’s coming down on me telling me to lose weight and I have to do it or else I’m not playing. I just wanted to make sure that I was the best version of myself. One of my favorite athletes, LeBron James, does that as well as anyone else. I just felt like it was something I needed to work on at the time. I just started chipping away at it.”
