Arsalan Khawaja was released on bail in earlier this month after appearing in a Sydney court on charges of forgery and attempting to pervert justice. On Thursday, he was re-arrested after allegedly attempting to influence a witness” in the counter-terror investigation, a New South Wales state police spokeswoman told AFP. The 39-year-old was alleged of breaching his bail conditions and influencing a witness in judicial procedures. He was refused bail ahead of his court appearance in Sydney later Friday.

Earlier in August, the Sri Lankan Mohamed Nizamdeen was arrested in August over a “hit list” written in a notebook, which outlined plans to kill then prime minister Malcolm Turnbull. But police released Nizamdeen in September and later dropped the charges after investigators could not link the handwriting in the notebook to him.

Willing added that the grievance was over a woman, and that line of inquiry was “part of the process” being investigated. He said there is no ongoing threat to the community. Australian police now say they “regret” arresting Sri Lankan-born Nizamdeen.

Arsalan is reportedly seeking further damages from officials. He was arrested in suburban Sydney earlier this month and is being questioned over accusations he attempted to pervert justice by making a false document, which listed high-profile targets. According to the investigation, it has been found that Arsalan Khawaja set up his university colleague Nizamdeen in relation to a dispute over a woman.

Pakistan-born cricketer, Usman Khawaja, 32, is playing in the ongoing third Test between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He made a comeback to the national squad after returning from injury in the four-match Test series.
