The Australian batsman Usman Khawaja is feeling  ‘extremely disappointed’ as he has been dropped from Australia’s ODI squad for the ongoing series against England. With the likes D’Arcy Short, Alex Carey and Shaun Marsh performing exceptionally well, Khawaja has been overlooked.

Usman has made 1492 runs at an average of 62.17 in the past four seasons of domestic one-day cricket, second to only Cameron White (1534) and Nic Maddinson (1503). On Monday, he expressed his disappointment for not getting a chance in the ODI team despite his impressive form in domestic one-day cricket, as quoted in RSN, Khawaja said, “I was extremely disappointed, in all honesty.”

He further added, “I’ve had a lot of chats to the selectors and a couple with JL (Justin Langer) about it. I was a bit disappointed but some things you can’t control … Hopefully, I’ll get a chance over the next year. I’m not sure there’s a lot more I can do other than just keep trying to score runs and hopefully I get a chance.”

However, Khawaja is ready to move past the issue and look forward to scoring more runs in domestic cricket and get back to the international scheme of things. Australia will next tour Ireland in the month of August for limited-overs series, where Khawaja might get a chance on the back of his brilliant domestic performances.

Talking on the same lines, Usman said, “That’s part of cricket, selections. You’ve got to figure out a way to move past and try to score runs. I just assumed that they didn’t want me in the team because they just didn’t want me in the team – there’s not much other than that.”

Australian team faced consecutive disappointments against England in the ongoing ODI series. They lost the first two matches comprehensively in the five-match series and aim to win the last three games remaining in the series.
