India’s U19 cricket team has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first in 30 years to win the shortest-ever Youth Test to produce a result. The Ayush Mhatre-led side displayed remarkable dominance throughout their tour of Australia, winning all five matches — three one-dayers and two Tests — without suffering a single defeat.

The young Indian team began their campaign in emphatic style, clinching the three-match Youth ODI series 3-0. They started with a seven-wicket win, followed it up with a 51-run victory, and sealed the whitewash with a thumping 167-run triumph in the final game. Riding high on confidence, India carried that momentum into the two-match Youth Test series.

They defeated Australia by an innings and 58 runs in the opening Test before wrapping up the tour with a 7-wicket win in the second match — setting a new record in the process. This second Youth Test, played in Mackay, lasted just 886 deliveries — breaking the previous record of the shortest Youth Test with a result, held by the West Indies, who defeated Pakistan in 1995 in Faisalabad in a match that lasted 992 deliveries.

Australia’s batting lineup struggled to cope with India’s disciplined bowling. In the first Test at Brisbane, they posted scores of 243 and 127, falling by an innings. The collapse deepened in Mackay, where only wicketkeeper Alex Lee Young showed some fight, scoring 66 in Australia’s first-innings total of 135. Their second innings ended at a mere 116, leaving India to chase 81 for victory, which they did with seven wickets to spare.

India’s lower order also contributed significantly, with Deepesh Devendran’s resilient 22 helping India reach 171 in their first innings after being 144/7 overnight. For Australia, Kasey Barton led with four wickets, while Charles Lachmund, Will Byrom, and Julian Osbourne picked two each.

This commanding performance not only showcased India’s next generation of talent but also underlined their growing dominance in world youth cricket.
