Indian cricket’s rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi has etched his name in the record books by surpassing former U19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand’s tally of most sixes in Youth ODIs. The 13-year-old prodigy now boasts 41 sixes, eclipsing Chand’s 38, during the ongoing Youth ODI series against Australia.

After a blistering 38-ball knock in the opening ODI, Suryavanshi carried his form into the second match, smashing a composed 70 off 68 deliveries. His innings provided stability after skipper Ayush Mhatre departed for a two-ball duck. Partnering effectively for the second wicket, Suryavanshi looked destined for a bigger score before Aryan Sharma pulled off a stunning catch to end his knock.
Chand had struck 38 sixes in 21 games, while Suryavanshi reached the milestone in just 10 innings, underlining his rare talent and power-hitting ability. In his 70-run innings, he cleared the ropes six times before falling to Australia’s captain Yash Deshmukh.

So far, the Samastipur-born sensation has accumulated 540 runs in Youth ODIs, with nearly 26% of those runs coming exclusively from boundaries. Among Indian youngsters, only Chand and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30 sixes in 27 matches between 2018 and 2020) come close, with Jaiswal now a key member of the senior Indian setup.

Suryavanshi’s cricketing journey has already seen remarkable milestones. In the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy, he debuted at just 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, becoming the youngest-ever player in the tournament’s storied history.
Soon after, he smashed the fastest Youth ODI century, reaching his ton in just 52 balls, bettering Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam’s record of 53 balls. That same innings saw him set the Indian record for most sixes in a single Youth ODI with 10. At 13 years and 188 days, Suryavanshi also became the youngest centurion in the 170-year history of competitive cricket.

Earlier, he had scored a blazing 58-ball century against Australia in the 1st Youth Test in Chennai, setting another benchmark for India at the youth level. With records tumbling almost every time he steps onto the field, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is quickly emerging as the face of India’s cricketing future.
