India’s U-19 team started their five-match youth ODI series against England in style, clinching a comfortable six-wicket win in the opening game at the County Ground in Hove on June 27. After England captain Thomas Rew chose to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 174, thanks to disciplined bowling from the Indian side.

Leading the charge with the bat, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a blistering 48 off just 19 deliveries, striking three fours and five sixes. Suryavanshi and skipper Ayush Mhatre (21 off 30) stitched a 71-run opening stand in just 7.3 overs to set the tone for the chase. Clips of Suryavanshi’s explosive batting lit up social media, going viral within hours of the match.

Following Suryavanshi’s dismissal, wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu ensured there were no hiccups, scoring a fluent 45 off 34 balls to guide India to victory in just 24 overs, with six wickets in hand.

Earlier, England’s Rocky Flintoff, son of former captain and legendary all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, offered resistance with a fighting 56 off 90 balls, laced with three fours and as many sixes. However, England struggled to build partnerships as India’s bowlers kept chipping away.

Kanishk Chouhan was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 20 in his 10-over spell. Henil Patel, RS Ambrish, and Mohamed Enaan bagged two wickets apiece, helping dismiss the hosts well before they could post a challenging total.

Suryavanshi’s heroics in this match added to his growing reputation after making waves in IPL 2025. Signed by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore, he made his debut earlier this year against Lucknow Super Giants and announced himself by hitting a six off his very first ball.
