Varun Aaron signs Leicestershire for 2018 County cricket

28-years old Indian pacer Varun Aaron will join Leicestershire County Cricket Club for the 2018 summer county cricket. The club has announced the signing of Varun Aaron who will be available for the club in early part of the season.

Indian right-arm fast bowler Varun Aaron is expected to feature in the first-class and List A games of this season for Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

Speaking of their new signing, Leicestershire Head Coach Paul Nixon said, “Varun is a high-quality performer and his skills will be ideally suited to early season conditions in England. We are delighted to secure his signature for both Specsavers County Championship games and fixtures in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

“We are getting a genuinely quick bowler in Varun, who has played a number of games for India and also enjoyed a fine domestic career. Varun is very keen to do well for us and get back in the India team again and we’re really looking forward to him linking up with us.”

Making an international debut in 2011, Varun Aaron has played 9 Tests and 9 ODIs. Last time he featured in international cricket in 2015 during the India vs South Africa Test match at Bengaluru.

Aaron is also delighted after getting this opportunity. He said on it, “I am relishing the opportunity to join the Foxes for the first part of the season. Playing county cricket presents me with a great opportunity to showcase my skills. I’m looking forward to taking wickets and contributing to the success of the team.”

It is not the first time when Aaron is going to play the county cricket. In 2014, Aaron had played for Durham County Cricket Club. In that season, Aaron had played only 2 County Championship games where he had picked up total three wickets.

Earlier, Leicestershire has signed Pakistan pacers Mohammad Abbas and Sohail Khan. But Sohail’s back injury has forced him to miss the season and Aaron becomes his replacement.

Apart from Varun Aaron, Indian skipper and one of the best batsman in the present world Virat Kohli (most probably Surrey), Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara (Yorkshire), off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (Warwickshire) and pacer Ishant Sharma (Sussex) will also take participate in the upcoming English county season.
