The Indian spinner, Varun Chakravarthy showed deep emotions as he made a magnificent comeback to international cricket in the first T20I between India and Bangladesh on October 6 at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. Chakravarthy last played for India in 2021 and was set to spend another three years away when he returned to the national fold and straightaway swung it for his team.
The mystery spinner claimed three wickets for 31 runs from his four overs as India restricted Bangladesh to a mere 127. India easily chased down the target, winning the game by seven wickets with 8.1 overs to spare.
“That was a personal rebirth for me, playing for India after so long,” he said after his return. The 33-year-old appreciated that perhaps this could be the most emotional journey back into the team, insisting he has never allowed his focus to lie elsewhere but on this process.

“After three long years, it was surely emotional for me. It feels nice to be back in the Blues. It feels like a rebirth. I just want to stick to the process, that’s what I have been following in the IPL as well,” Varun Chakravarthy told Jio Cinema in a post-match interview.

He acknowledged that he is not interested in the future but wants to remain an earthy and focused man on earth, present and solid. He said that his experience in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 for Dindigul Dragons under Ravichandran Ashwin was his defining moment of development.
The Dragons went on to win the TNPL title, with Varun Chakravarthy taking 12 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 19.83. “Working with Ashwin bhai during TNPL really worked well for me. We won the championship, and that gave me the confidence here. It was good preparation for this series,” he explained.

Throughout his period away from the national team, Varun Chakravarthy never lost hope. He is aware that once out of the Indian side, players are often written off. But he remained persistent and kept himself in contention for a recall. “You need to stay at the highest level and keep knocking on the door. Thankfully, this time it happened. Hopefully, I can continue my good work,” he concluded.
