The Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) has announced a cash prize of ₹3 Crores after Faiz Fazal and his men won the Ranji Trophy title beating Saurashtra in the final by 78 runs. Meanwhile, Vidarbha became the sixth team to defend their title. Aditya Sarwate was adjudged the Man of the Match for his matchwinning spell of 6 for 59 helping his team to turn the match in their favor.
Meanwhile, Ranji legend Wasim Jaffer has won ten straight Ranji finals in his career, his second successive title win for Vidarbha. He was a part of 8 Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai.
As per the reports in PTI, VCA President Anand Jaiswal said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gives ₹2 crore (as prize money) and we (VCA) will be giving ₹3 crore additionally (to the team). So, the total purse will be ₹5 crore.”

The President has also announced that they have decided to postpone the celebrations due to the Irani Trophy game which is scheduled to be played in Nagpur on February 12.
Vidarbha had their control in the final throughout the duration of the five days. Vidarbha scored 312 in their first innings to which Saurashtra replied by scoring 307 runs. In the second innings, Vidarbha just managed to reach 200 after which Sarwate weaved his magic around the Saurashtra batsmen to help his team win the title for the second successive time.
Managing to defend their title, Vidarbha has joined the list of Mumbai, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Delhi all of whom have defended their Ranji title in the past.

The entire cricket fraternity has extended their greetings on Vidarbha’s feat on Twitter praising Jaffer who at the age of 40 is still playing first-class cricket and has played a crucial role for Vidarbha in their journey to the title. He amassed 1037 runs in 11 matches for his side with the help of four centuries and two half-centuries to finish the season as the second highest run-scorer behind Sikkim’s Milind Kumar.
