Indian player Veda Krishnamurthy is about to crack a contract in Women’s Big Bash League for its third edition later this year. Also, all-rounder, Dipti Sharma can feature in one of a franchise in WBBL.
Veda revealed to PTI about her Big Bash possibility and said “I am in talks with a few franchises. Until then, I won’t like to say much.”
“Both Krishnamurthy and Dipti Sharma should play the Big Bash this season. They are close to securing contracts,” a BCCI official said.
Women Big Bash League has launched two years ago and Sydney Thunders became the first winners before Sydney Sixers triumph in the second edition. Indian women players Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana are the only players who have played this league earlier.
The Indian team is off the field since their glorious journey in Women’s World Cup 2017 in England, where they lost to England in the finals.
Meanwhile, Krishnamurthy said she is willing to join India camp in Bengaluru from November 8. “We hardly got time in the first two months after coming back from England. Life has changed and people recognize us now,” she added. “I was focusing on my fitness all this while. Just can’t wait for the season to begin.”
Indian women’s next assignment will come in February. Thus, players will take part in the domestic tournaments.
