Veda Krishnamurthy Loses Her Sister To COVID-19

Indian women cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy has lost her sister on Wednesday, having earlier contracted to the deadly COVID-19 virus. Notably, she lost her mother two weeks ago due to the same reason as well.

While informing the news, she took to Twitter and shared. “It is with great sadness that last night my family had to say goodbye to My Akka. My family, my world has been rocked to its core,” she tweeted on Thursday. “Appreciate all the messages and prayers . My thoughts with everyone going through these devastating times. Hold your loved ones tight and stay safe,” she further added.

Soon after her tweet, the cricket fraternity started sharing condolences.

May God be with you and help you tide over this rough and rough phase in your life.. My heartfelt condolences to you and the rest of your family members..”

“Take care. Stay strong,” wrote former India women’s team coach Ramesh Powar.

“Really sorry for your loss. May her soul R.I.P,” former India opener Aakash Chopra replied.

“Thinking of you and sending sympathies from Ireland. So sorry for your loss, Veda,” former Ireland cricketer Isobel Joyce wrote.

Her mother and sister had both had tested positive for COVID-19, but she had tested negative as well.

“Appreciate all the messages I have received about the loss of my Amma. As you can imagine my family is lost without her. We now pray for my sister. I have tested negative & appreciate if you can respect our privacy. My thoughts & prayers go out to those going through the same!” she had tweeted after her mother’s death.

Veda Krishnamurthy is a key player of the Indian women’s cricket team and has played for the country in both the ODIs and T20Is. She had made her debut for Indian in a T20I match against Australia in June 2011 and since then, he has been a key member of the team as well. The Bengaluru-based cricketer has so far played 48 ODIs and 76 T20Is and scored 829 and 875 runs in both formats respectively.
