India Women cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy, who recently lost her sister and mother due to COVID-19, has thanked BCCI and its secretary, Jay Shah, for checking on her and supporting her in these “unprecedented times”. The swashbuckling middle-order India batter lost her elder sister Vatsala Shivakumar to COVID-19, two weeks after her mother died due to the deadly virus. Meanwhile, she was not added to the Indian Team for the upcoming one-off Test match and limited-overs series against England next month as well.

“Have been tough last month for me and family and I’d like to sincerely thank the @BCCI & Mr @jayshah sir for calling me few days back and extending support in these unprecedented times. Many thanks sir @BCCIWomen,” Veda Krishnamurthy took to Twitter and shared her thought.

Earlier, former Australia Women cricketer Lisa Sthalekar has backed her and also slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not checking on Veda Krishnamurthy during her toughest time, citing that the board did not check on Veda after her twin personal tragedies in her family as well.

Notably, Lisa Sthalekar, who was the first cricketer to achieve the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in women’s One-Day Internationals, has felt that the time has come for a player’s association for the Indian women’s team as well.

“Whilst not selecting Veda for the upcoming series may be justified from their point of view, what angers me the most is that as a contracted player she has not received any communication from BCCI, just to even check how she is coping,” Lisa Sthalekar had said in a note on her Twitter handle.
