Former Indian fast bowler, Venkatesh Prasad has come forward and criticized the selection policy of the current Team India under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid. Since the squad announcement came for the ODI team for the tour of West Indies, agitated former cricketers have criticized social media for resting would not get senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back to form.

Notably, both senior criticizing have been rested for the ODI tour, with Shikhar Dhawan scheduled to lead the Indian side. Venkatesh Prasad is the latest in the long line of cricketers to call out the decision. He said that even the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, and Virender Sehwag were dropped when they were suffering from woeful form. Calling the resting of the players ‘no way of progress’ Venkatesh Prasad said that players cannot be playing just based on their reputation.

Venkatesh Prasad tweeted, “There was a time when you were out of form, you would be dropped irrespective of reputation. Sourav, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Zaheer, Bhajji all have been dropped when not in form. They have went back to domestic cricket, scored runs and staged a comeback. The yardsticks seem to have changed drastically now, where there is rest for being out of form.”

In his tweet, Prasada further added, This is no way for progress. There is so much talent in the country and cannot play on reputation. One of India’s greatest match-winner, Anil Kumble sat out on so many occasions, need action’s for the larger good.”

Kohli’s lack of batting form has now reached an alarming level of late. During the Indian Premier League (IPL), many, including the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Ravi Shastri had advocated that the former Indian skipper needs to go back on a sabbatical to come back fresh after a hectic schedule in the bio-bubble environment.
