The premier Indian fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah is easily considered as the x-factor in the Indian team ever since he made his international debut against Australia in January 2016. Immediately after his debut, Bumrah earned a name for himself for being an unorthodox bowler and his variations including the toe-crushing yorkers.

Jasprit Burmah has often been lauded by the cricketing pundits for scripting history and now, former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad also seemed highly impressed with Bumrah. Detailing his opinion on Bumrah’s unorthodox bowling action, Prasad asserted that the speedster’s action matches with that of Sri Lanka’s veteran seamer Lasith Malinga.

During a recent chat with Crickt.com, Venkatesh Prasad said, “Bumrah is a completely different bowler because of his unorthodox action and is like Lasith Malinga. Bumrah comes like 11 o’ clocks and not the other side. He is opposite to Malinga and it’s not easy to pick such bowlers.”

He further added, “That creates doubt because a batsman is not sure if it’s coming into them or pitching straight. So that’s why he is much more successful. His unique action is helping him a lot, actually. Indeed, it’s a combination of a lot of things.”

With the emergence of T20 cricket in teh last decade or so, Venkatesh Prasad feels that it’s great to see the bowlers coming up with unique deliveries like off-cutter, off-cutter bouncer, the knuckleball, and different types of a yorker.

Talking about T20 cricket further, Venkatesh Prasad said, “The game has been evolving so is pace bowling. Runs are being made at a rapid pace in Test cricket and similarly, in T20, the variations you see in bowling are amazing. Back of the hand, off-cutter, off-cutter bouncer then knuckleball and even yorker itself has gone into so many variations.”
