SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from the verge of winning on Wednesday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. However, after the defeat, SRH captain David Warner was seen as deeply dishearten. However, his half-century had helped his side to have the upper hand but Shahbaz Ahmed damaged their middle order and put RCB on the driver’s seat and also register a nail-biting six-run win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 14.

After the loss, Warner feels that they need big partnerships in the middle overs if they want to reach the target.

“Look, it was just about building a partnership and I was quite disappointed with how we went – cross-batted shots against left-arm orthodox. It just hurts,” David Warner said the post-match presentation. “We have another three games here, the wickets are going to get better here. We need to try to take powerplay wickets and need to have one big partnership in the middle.”

Hyderabad were on the verge of a win with Warner and Manish Pandey adding an 83-run stand for the second wicket but they failed to keep the momentum in the middle overs and eventually collapsed from 96/1 to 123/6 within 4.4 overs and in the end could only manage to score 143/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Notably, Shahbaz claimed three key wickets and broke the backbone which helped his side restricted the opponent as well.

“A very bitter pill to swallow. Obviously Maxi batted well, but our bowlers did well to restrict them. The last four games here the team batting second should’ve won the game. Last night’s game was an example and we played an identical game,” added David Warner.

SRH will next play against the defending champions Mumbai Indians on Saturday, April 17.

However, a happy captain Virat Kohli said: “Not as exhausted as I am proud (of the team). It was a top game for us, the wicket is going to get challenging, we saw that yesterday. You are never really out of the game in these conditions. We have more bowling options and those extra bowling options made those impact performances in the middle overs. I told the guys don’t think that we struggled to get to 149. I believed we could win with 150. If it was tough for us, it will be tough for them as well.”
