Viacom18 bags WIPL Media Rights for 5 years

Viacom18 has bagged Women’s IPL media rights. They committed Rs 951 crore to the BCCI as well which means that the broadcaster will pay the BCCI per match value of INR 7.09 crores for the next 5 years (2023-27) as well. This is a massive development for women’s cricket. BCCI secretary Jay Shah later confirmed this news as well.

In another Tweet, Jay Shah also added that after the pay equity, the bidding for media rights for Women’s IPL is another historic mandate. He referred to it as the dawn of a new era and also a big and decisive step for the empowerment of women’s cricket in India as well. Jay Shah is hopeful that the WIPL will make sure the participation of women of all ages as well.

Five price ranges, from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh, has been kept as the base price for the first auction prior to the WIPL. The auction’s registration cutoff date is January 26 as well. Uncapped players have two alternatives whereas capped players—those who have played for India or are currently on a central contract—can select one of three basic prices: Rs. 30 lakh, Rs. 40 lakh, or Rs. 50 lakh (Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh) as well. The five WIPL franchises will be unveiled by the BCCI on January 25 also.
