Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced a significant development on Thursday, revealing that Viacom18 has successfully secured the BCCI media rights for both linear and digital platforms for the next five years. This announcement marks the conclusion of BCCI’s association with Disney Star, which had notably retained the rights in 2018 with a substantial deal valued at INR 6,138 crore.
Taking to his official X account, Jay Shah conveyed his congratulations to Viacom18 for winning the BCCI media rights, emphasizing the growth of Indian cricket across various platforms. He wrote, “Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the @BCCI Media Rights for both linear and digital for the next 5 years. India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after @IPL, and @wplt20, we extend the partnership @BCCI Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of Indian cricket fans.”

In the same post, Jay Shah also expressed gratitude towards Disney Star for their crucial role in expanding the reach of Indian cricket. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Viacom18 will invest INR 67.8 crore per game under the newly formed agreement. The terms of the deal are set to run until March 2028, encompassing a total of 88 cricket matches. The agreement’s commencement coincides with a three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Australia scheduled for late September.
Viacom18 had already secured digital rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and broadcasting rights, both linear and digital, for the Women’s Premier League (WPL). This strategic move highlights Viacom18’s growing influence in the domain of Indian cricket broadcasting.
