Vidarbha has created history by clinching Ranji Trophy final against Delhi by nine wickets in Holkar Stadium Indore. Playing their first-ever final in Ranji, they managed to win the final game against 2007 winners.
Vidarbha won the toss to bowl first and their bowlers back captain Faiz Fazal’s decision with regular wickets on day 1. An inspirational hundred by Dhruv Shorey led them to past 200, but then Rajneesh Gurbani proved his class with a record hat-trick. Gurbani registered yet another five-wicket haul to end Delhi’s resistance at 295.
Vidarbha was very strong with their reply as every batsman put a price tag over their wicket and contributed to scoring mammoth total. Wicketkeeper Akshay Wadkar completed a hundred in the first innings total of 547.
After giving a lead in access of 200, Delhi openers fall cheaply, who were the star in their semifinal win. Dhruv Shorey and Nitish Rana tried to steady the ship, but once this partnership was broken, Delhi batsmen fell like nine pins. They somehow manage to go past the lead and gave a 32-run target to their opponent to make history, who reached there without wasting too much of time.
Brief scores: Delhi 295 (Dhruv Shorey 145; Rajneesh Gurbani 6-59) and 280 (Nitish Rana 64; Akshay Wakhare 4-95) lost to Vidarbha 547 (Akshay Wadkar 133; Navdeep Saini 5-135) and 32/1 by nine wickets.
