Vijay Shankar Has Expressed Frustration Over IPL Postponement

India allrounder Vijay Shankar has expressed his frustration over the postponement of IPL 2020. The Indian Premier League, just like many major sporting events were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic across the globe. The Tamil Nadu allrounder feels that many players have been robbed off a chance to compete for a spot on the Indian team rooster which is set to play in the ICC T-20 World Cup in Australia.

On Tuesday, after Indian  Prime minister Narendra Modi’s speech to the nation, The Indian government has extended the lockdown from April 15 to May 3. his step has been taken as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the virus. Due to the extension of lockdown, the possibility of IPL being held in the current window has ended. BCCI has informed franchise the season has been postponed indefinitely.

The 13th season of India’s premier cricketing event, the Indian Premier League was scheduled to commence from March 29 onwards. Due to the pandemic outbreak of CoronaVirus across the globe, IPL was rescheduled to begin on April 15. However since Indian government has extended the lockdown till May 3, it isn’t wrong to expect that IPL will not happen in the current window.

“It (IPL) is an important tournament because it is the time you only play T20 for close to two months,” Shankar told The Hindu. “One good IPL can change a player’s career, and it is a bit frustrating [to miss out on it]. More than the selection, as players we just want to play cricket.”

The Tami-Nadu all-rounder hs been eyeing a comeback in Indian national team set up for quite some time. His latest appearance in the Indian team came last year where he featured in the ODI World Cup last year.

The 29-year-old was in good form for Tamil Nadu this season. He also and had a decent outing with the India A team during their tour of New Zealand.

However, the allrounder shares where he needs to improve as a player. He adds, “I played well but I wish I could have finished a few more games in New Zealand. On a similar tour before the 2019 World Cup, I did do that’s how I got into the national team,” he said.
