India’s batting coach, Vikram Rathour, recently shared his concerns regarding Virat Kohli’s form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Although India remains unbeaten in the tournament, Kohli’s performance has been lackluster, raising concerns within the team management.

Kohli has managed to score only 29 runs across four matches, averaging a mere 7.25. His struggles continued in the first Super Eight match against Afghanistan, where he scored 24 runs off 24 deliveries. Despite India securing a dominant victory in that game, Kohli’s inability to make a significant impact with the bat has been a talking point.

Ahead of India’s next Super Eight clash against Bangladesh, Rathour addressed Kohli’s form. While expressing his disappointment, he also highlighted the importance of such challenges for a star player like Kohli.

“I’m not happy with his performance. I would love to see him scoring more runs and getting back in form. But, sometimes, it’s good to be challenged. It’s a test of character and resilience,” Vikram Rathour said, as quoted by Sportskeeda. He added that it’s encouraging to see other players stepping up when key players are not performing at their best. “It’s great to see our middle-order contributing significantly, especially when some of our mainstays are struggling.”

Vikram Rathour also emphasized the squad’s versatility, which he believes is one of India’s biggest strengths. The team has shown flexibility in their lineup, adjusting their combination based on the conditions. While they used three pacers and two spinners in the group stage, they opted for three spinners in the Super Eight match against Afghanistan.

“We’ve always had depth as a team. These conditions allow us to play multiple spinners, which can be a significant advantage. Our ability to adapt to different conditions and still perform well is a testament to our team’s strength,” Vikram Rathour explained.

He further highlighted the importance of having versatile players like Axar Patel in the lineup. “Having someone like Axar Patel batting at eight gives us a lot of confidence. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball adds a lot of depth to our team. It’s a crucial strength for us,” Vkram Rathour concluded.

With these insights, Rathour expressed optimism about India’s ability to navigate through the tournament, emphasizing the team’s adaptability and depth as key factors in their success.
