Currently, the Indian team is on a pristine run in T20I cricket. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, the men in blue are on a five-match winning streak and have taken 2-0 lead in the 5-match series against New Zealand after they successfully disposed of the Kiwi challenge in back-to-back games by six and seven-wicket respectively.

With the ICC T20 World Cup around the corner this October, teams are looking to try out youngsters to find the winning combination. However, Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathore reckons that the core of the team will have been achieved, and barring injury-forced changes, it is likely to remain the same.

The Indain team has tried out quite a few youngsters like Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube and they have contributed ably. Rathore hailed the current generation as “incredible” while also hailing the team to adjust to the New Zealand conditions in just a short space of time, as they did.

As per the quotes in Sportstar, Rathour said, “Adjustments will keep going on till the last minute. But as far as I am concerned and the team management is concerned, we have the core. We know what our team is going to be. Unless there is a case of injury or really bad loss in form, I don’t see many changes happening. This new generation of cricketers is incredible. I find it amazing actually that they turn up and they are at their best straight away across different formats, different grounds, and different countries actually.”

One of the most heartening things for the men in blue is the likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are taking responsibility and are making it a point to finish off the games. While Rahul has churned out back-to-back half-centuries in Auckland, Shreyas Iyer too played a couple of brilliant knocks which he timed and placed them to perfection. And, Rathore is very happy that the duo is stepping forward for the team.

Rathour further elaborated, “The more opportunities that these guys get, they are showing that they are capable. They are showing that they are match-winners on their day. That will help the team, of course, but it will also help their confidence. Having seen KL (Rahul) and Shreyas as young cricketers coming through, in my mind, I have absolutely no doubt that they are match-winners.”
