This turned out to be a sigh of relief for all sports enthusiasts as former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli took to clarifying that he was fine and in healthy spirits, thus ending the speculations doing the rounds ever since a viral video appeared. The video, which went viral on social media recently, showed Kambli walking and stumbling; at one point, he even had to hold a motorcycle to support himself.

The video was worrying to the extent that it showed the former cricketer in a helpless state, unable even to walk into a building without assistance from passersby. Having had illness marring Vinod Kambli in the recent past, especially a heart attack in 2013 coming within a year of the 2012 angioplasty procedure, it did not take fans and well-wishers long to express their concern, entreating the cricket fraternity and, indeed the Board of Control for Cricket in India, to extend all possible support to him.

However, Vinod Kambli later clarified that the video was quite old and did not show his current state. According to a Hindustan Times report, Kambli assured his friends and the officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association that he was fine.

In a recent meeting with his school friend Ricky and first-class umpire Marcus, Kambli said that the video doing the rounds on social media is old and does not reflect his current status. “I am fine, don’t believe social media,” Vinod Kambli apparently told Marcus.

He said, “He was in a jolly mood when we met him. He is recovering well and in much better condition. The video being circulated is outdated. He doesn’t have belly fat, and eats his food well. The entire family was present and enjoying each other’s company. His son, Cristiano, also a left-hand batter like his father, was taking batting tips from him.”

Once reported as India’s most exciting cricketer, at one time, he was even head and shoulders above his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar. Equipped with this envious talent, Kambli’s career just did not take off. He played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India, amassing 1,084 and 2,477 runs respectively with six centuries across formats. Vinod Kambli last represented India in 2000 before officially retiring from all forms of cricket in 2011.
