A video of former India batter Vinod Kambli addressing fans from an elderly care centre in Thane has gone viral on social media. In the clip, the 54-year-old former cricketer can be seen speaking positively about the facilities at the Nidan elderly care centre while thanking the staff for the affection and support he has received.

Kambli has faced several health challenges in recent years. In December 2024, he was admitted to Akriti Hospital in Thane after suffering from a urinary infection, muscle cramps and brain clots. He had also been hospitalised in November 2013 after experiencing chest pain and a heart attack while driving in Mumbai.

On Friday, September 25, a video shared widely across social media showed Vinod Kambli describing his experience at the care centre. He praised the hygiene and facilities and said the environment made him feel at home. Kambli also expressed gratitude for the love he had received from those around him.

The former India batter also made a public appearance during an IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium. Vinod Kambli needed assistance while walking but appeared in good spirits and acknowledged fans who wished him well.

Alongside his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar, Kambli became a familiar name among Indian cricket fans during the 1990s. He announced himself on the international stage with a spectacular double century against England in only his third Test. Vinod Kambli scored 224 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 1993.

He followed that performance with another double century in his next Test, scoring 227 against Zimbabwe in Delhi. Later that year, Kambli also registered back-to-back centuries during India’s tour of Sri Lanka.

However, his Test career eventually lost momentum, particularly after facing difficulties against the West Indies pace attack during the 1994 home series. Vinod Kambli finished with 17 Test appearances, scoring 1,084 runs at an impressive average of 54.20, including four centuries.

His ODI career was more inconsistent, with injuries and form affecting his opportunities. Kambli played 104 ODIs for India and scored 2,477 runs at an average of 32.59. His tally included two centuries and 14 half-centuries. Despite his relatively short international career, Kambli remains a memorable figure in Indian cricket, particularly for his extraordinary start to Test cricket and his long-standing friendship with Tendulkar.
