The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) head Vinod Rai has claimed that the elections of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will happen in next 90 days.

After registering its new constitution, now it’s time for the BCCI elections. On Monday, the CoA chief opened up about the BCCI elections and also added that they will leave once the new body takes over the office.

Rai said, “BCCI elections will happen in 90 days and that’s the deadline we have given ourselves. The moment the new body takes over, the COA will leave. We would do exactly what Justice Vikramjit Sen did (handover reins to DDCA’s elected body).”

It means that the BCCI AGM-cum-elections will take place in the last week of November.

Rai added, “We have tried to ensure total transparency in the functioning and decision making process of the BCCI.”

Rai didn’t want to give his views about the total tenure for every administration that is nine or 18 years.

He told, “There are queries in Supreme Court and although I have an interpretation but I will not comment on it.”

When Rai was asked about Anil Kumble’s exit from the Indian cricket team coaching contract, which happened in very chaos way, the CoA chief defended that decision which resulted in Ravi Shastri’s return to that role.

Vinod Rai.

Rai said on that, “Anil Kumble was appointed for one year and then we started a fresh process. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) was part of the process.”

The CoA chief was also asked about the future practical problems regarding the implementation.

In reply, Rai said, “Let them first adopt the new Constitution and get the compliance. The practical problems that they have regarding qualification of selectors and all can then be addressed.”

Talking about one of his big achievements in this tenure, Rai mentioned the pay hike for the cricketers, in both international and domestic cricket.

Earlier, there were some issues regarding the payments among some state players’ but Rai has assured that it has been solved.

He said, “Now players can raise invoice and payments would be directly credited to their accounts.”
