Former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli was seen applauding Sri Lanka National Cricket Team captain Dimuth Karunaratne for his sensational century in the 4th innings of the second Test match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, March 14. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne was unable to perform well in the first innings of the match and he got dismissed in Mohammed Shami’s over after scoring just 4 runs off 13 balls.

However, things were completely different in the second innings of Sri Lanka and 4th innings of the match as the Sri Lanka captain fought back strong against the Indian bowling unit, which consists of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja.

Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne led his team from the front while chasing a huge target of 447 runs on a tricky Bengaluru surface. He reached his half-century off 92 balls, including six fours. Also, he didn’t stop there as he went on to complete his remarkable century in the 55th over by smashing a boundary to Jasprit Bumrah. He scored 103* off 166 balls including 14 fours and after the century he was batting cautiously against the Indian bowling unit.

Meanwhile, Dimuth Karunaratne was castled by Jasprit Bumrah in the 57th over and he ended at 107 runs off 174 balls, including 15 fours. He has become only the third Sri Lankan captain to score a ton in India.

Also, this was the second time Karunaratne had smashed a century in a day-night pink-ball Test match, having scored his first one again Pakistan in Dubai in the year 2019. Also, he is ranked second in the list of most centuries smashed by Sri Lanka openers in Test cricket with 14 hundred under his belt. He is just behind M Atapattu, who has 16 tons.
