The swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has finally shown his class in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and gave his critics a good response too. Once again, he put up a great show against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) 38-run win over at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He smashed 78 runs off 49 balls, including nine fours and three sixes.

After the game, RCB captain Virat Kohli praised the 32-year-old and AB de Villiers. Both Maxwell and De Villiers added a crucial partnership which resulted in a target of 205 runs for KKR.

“Maxwell was outstanding and AB to follow. When he gets in with that kind of form and flow, it’s impossible to stop him. We got 40 extra runs on that pitch which slowed down. Maxi has taken to this team like duck to water”, said Kohli, during the post-match presentation. “AB loves the team and they were the difference today.”

Glenn Maxwell joined RCB for the IPL 2021 after a bidding war and the Virat Kohli-led team bought him for a whopping price of Rs 14.25 crore. Meanwhile, Kohli also applauded his bowlers, especially Mohammed Siraj, Kyle Jamieson and Harshal Patel who did quite well too.

“Siraj’s over to Russell was good. He has had some history against Russell. He’s a different bowler after the Australia tour and he shut the game out. Harshal has so much clarity in the end and I think Jamieson also bowled well. That’s the reason why we have three out of three”, shared Virat Kohli.

Glenn Maxwell is now in the Orange Cap race with 176 runs from three matches as well.

RCB won the toss and chose to bat first. After a shaky start, Maxwell stabilised the knock and involved in two crucial partnerships with Devdutt Padikkal and AB de Villiers. Their onslaught helped RCB put up 204 for four in 20 overs.

On the other hand, KKR despite having a flying start fell under the pressure and eventually lost the plot. Kyle Jamieson took three wickets as they could manage only 166 for eight in 20 overs, losing by 38 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel picked up two wickets for RCB as well.
