After suffering a defeat in the series opener of the four-match Test series, the Indian team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli made a strong comeback strong in the second Test against England as they notched a brilliant win by a huge margin of 317 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
After the series leveling win, Kohli hailed the team for showing “superb character and fighting spirit” after the huge victory but maintained that the focus is now on the next Test – the day-night game at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. Tweeting about the same, Virat Kohli wrote: “Superb character and fighting spirit on display. Well done boys. The focus is now on the next one.”

Ravichandran Ashwin was the star for India, as he scalped eight wickets and scoring a memorable century in the third-innings. Ashwin played a phenomenal knock of 106, in what was the third instance of him scoring a century and picking up a five-wicket haul in the same match.

Kohli himself had a crucial partnership of 86 runs with R Ashwin, before being trapped leg-before by Moeen Ali for 62. Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel also played crucial roles for India as well. Rohit hit his seventh Test hundred with a score of 161 which gave the hosts much-needed impetus in the first-inning, while Axar claimed his maiden Test five-for (in the second innings) on debut.

The win saw India climb back up to second in the World Test Championship table, on the othe rhand, England has slid down to the fourth spot after defeat in the first Test. The third Test is slated to begin on February 24, which will be a pink-ball Test.
