India captain Virat Kohli reached another milestone when he enforced a follow-on for a record eighth time during the third and final Test against South Africa in Ranchi on Monday. India bowled out South Africa within 162 runs in their first innings to take a lead of 335 runs on the third day of the Test at JSCA International Stadium Complex. Kohli then enforced the follow-on for the record eighth time in his career as Test captain, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s seven. Former India captain MS Dhoni also enforced a follow-on five times in his career, while Sourav Ganguly did it four times as well.

India have already registered a series win of the three-match Test series by 2-0 with the help of victories in Vizag and Pune. This is, however, India’s record 11th Test series win at home. Playing his 51st Test match as captain, Virat Kohli failed to do well with the bat. However, Rohit Sharma continued his brilliance as the opener and scored his maiden Test double century. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane also hit a century and India declared their first innings on 497/9.

After the impressive batting display by the batsmen, Indian bowlers showed a beautiful performance with the ball and South Africa had no answer of it in Ranchi. Umesh Yadav led the pace attack with a couple of early wickets, while Mohammed Shami, Shahbaz Nadeem and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each as India wrapped up South Africa for 162.

South Africa started struggling in their second innings too as they lost 8 wickets very cheaply.
