Playing at the Holkar Stadium, Indore yesterday, Royal Challengers Bangalore cruised to an easy win against Kings XI Punjab. The win kept the hopes of RCB qualifying for the playoffs alive and has put KXIP under the pressure over their capitulation. The much-fancied team from Punjab was rolled over for just 88 runs and RCB chased down the total without losing any wicket.
However, Punjab’s innings was not controversy-free. The incident in action took place in the 13th overs of the match which was bowled by Umesh Yadav. Punjab was already languishing at 78/7 and the tail-ender Andrew Tye and all-rounder Axar Patel were at the crease.
On the fourth ball of the over, when Punjab had reached 79/7, Tye tried hitting away a short delivery bowled by Umesh Yadav. Instead, he achieved minimal contact and the ball after kissing the blade went straight in the gloves of Parthiv Patel.

The batsman was in a confused state. Tye signaled as if he wanted to review the decision. Then he approached his partner Axar Patel for consultation after which Tye withdrew the review and walked away.
The opposition captain Virat Kohli was perplexed at the happenings and sought clarification from the field umpires. He then engaged in an animated discussion with the umpires and thought that Punjab should’ve lost the review. The ultra-edge had also picked the spike clearly and he was not at all happy with the decision of the umpires.
The on-field officials then told Virat to get on with the game. With the match heavily in favor of RCB, Kohli also did not make much fuss of the issue and the match resumed shortly.
