On Wednesday, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli gave a clarification that he is not worried about his recurring back spasms and these issues couldn’t hinder his stellar career, he insisted that players get “niggles” and they were “nothing new”. During the Melbourne Test against Australia last week, on Day 2, Kohli received treatment as he was appearing to be in pain just before he was out for 82 in the first innings.

The Indian skipper has a recent history of back problems and was forced off the field during the second Test in England earlier this year. But he said it wasn’t a major concern. In Sydney ahead of the final game of the series, Virat said, “I’ve had this issue since 2011, it’s nothing new. I’ve been able to manage it because of the physical effort I’ve put in over the past few years. And when you have a back that has these issues you can only maintain it that way.”

Kohli’s passion to win games for India is too high that he acknowledged that he was “not too bothered” about the issue. He feels that if the workload gets high it can get into a spasm, which isn’t a serious issue, as it can be cured in two or three days.

The Indian skipper explained, “I’m not too concerned with it, you just have to manage it physically and stay ahead of the injury and I have been able to do it for now. I’m sure I’ll find other ways and more options to keep countering that. I mean, it’s impossible to keep going without niggles and I think it’s fine to have a few niggles here and there. You just need to be able to manage it.”

Kohli, who has recorded highest international runs for three years in a row, has been playing international cricket for a decade now and now he is currently aiming to be the first captain in the country’s history to win a Test series in Australia. He also said that his aim was to begin the New Year as well as he ended 2018.

The Indian skipper elaborated, “I think wins like MCG and Adelaide only make you feel like a team you are heading in the right direction. You will obviously make mistakes and you will have things to improve on, correct, but you can’t change your personality or character as a team. And when that comes through you understand that against all odds, you have stuck together as a side and eventually you start getting the results, and you start believing in yourself. So yeah it just gives us more confidence to do these things more often and not stop here.”
