Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu believes that the presence of an experienced player like Virat Kohli will be crucial in India’s upcoming Test series against England as well. Sidhu also said that the Indian batting legend should continue playing the longest format and move away from his desire to retire from it as well. However, the cricketing world has been abuzz since Virat Kohli informed the BCCI about his intention to retire from Test cricket.

“Virat Kohli’s decision — that he wants to retire — has created a stir across the cricketing world. His intention is right, his motive is noble — that “the old order must change, yielding place to the new.” But the timing and occasion are not appropriate, because the pride and prestige of India are on the line,” Sidhu said in the video.

“We are heading into a tour that is the toughest litmus test even for other Test-playing nations. Why do I say that Kohli can be our “knight in shining armor” in England? Because he has the experience, especially after Rohit Sharma’s departure. You can’t send an inexperienced side to England,” he further added.

However, Team India are scheduled to start their five-match Test series against England on June 20, with May 16 being the expected date for squad selection for the upcoming series as well. Kohli’s final decision is now likely to play a key role in shaping India’s preparation and strategy for the tour in the absence of Rohit Sharma who has recently retired from the format.
